Susanne Weir, Psy.D.

    Dr. Susanne Weir is the founder and director of Weir Psychological Services, Inc.  She is licensed as a psychologist by the state of California (PSY 24761). Dr. Weir earned a Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D.), and Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from the APA-accredited graduate program at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA., as well as a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in Psychology from Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA.

    Influenced by the effect of Buddhist Psychology her own life, as a clinician Dr. Weir has been drawn to learning about the role and use of mindfulness in psychotherapy. Since 2003, she has worked with children, teens, and adults in many different settings who have many different needs. People who meet with her often seek support for relationship troubles, depression, anxiety, grief, chronic pain, life transitions, and work or academic stress.

    Three areas of work which distinguish her practice are

        1. supporting, connecting with, and empowering autistic adults

        2. mindfulness-informed therapy and

        3. working with survivors of one or more traumatic events, including

  1. •physical and/or sexual assault

  2. •emotional, physical and/or sexual abuse

  3. •childhoods that were experienced as unsafe, unpredictable, and/or invalidating.

Dr. Weir offers a practical, flexible, and sensitive approach to therapy that is informed by current research, builds upon your strengths, and reflects your unique situation. Her style is warm, direct, interactive, and collaborative.

    In addition to her private practice work, Dr. Weir is passionate about teaching, which she has been able to do in numerous settings, including as an instructor of the Psychology of Gender for Palo Alto University's Psychology and Social Action program, and as the instructor for Interpersonal Abuse and Trauma at Fresno City College.
